What is a web proxy and why should you use one?

A proxy is actually a server which performs as a middleman among a client, internet and you. We send our request to a proxy server, then the server forwards it to the web and then proxy reverts back to you.

There are five types of proxies:

1. Web proxy.(This site)

2. Forced proxy.

3. Anonymous proxy.

4. Open proxy.

5. Caching proxy.

A proxy works by hiding your IP adress from a website or server.

You may ask yourself why would I want to hide my IP adress? Well... Your IP address reveals your point of entry to the Internet and can be used to trace your communications back to your ISP, your employer's network, your school, a public terminal. Though your IP address may not identify you personally, an IP is a unique identifier which represents your computer's digital ID while you are online. Today web proxies are by far the most popular, the reason being, web proxies are by far the fastest, most portable since you can use them on any computer(no software required).

This site itself was an experiment for me, one of my relatives had his network in his comapany hacked, it cost him thousands of dollars to rebuild the network. The hacker had found his IP adress out because he went to dangerous site by pure accident. So I decided to create a web proxy in order to join the fight against identity theft through the web and against IP related computer hacking.

Proxies provide anonymity.

If you live in the United States Amendments 4 and 5 of the Bill Of Rights protect the right to be free of unwarranted and unwanted government intrusion into one's personal and private affairs, papers, and possessions. There are similiar documents in many other countries aswell. You shouldn't need to use a web proxy for every site you visit but only ones that you think may be harmful.

Another common use for web proxies is browsing restricted sites on networks, If you happen to find yourself needing to go to a site during work but it is blocked even though it isn't harmful, thats when you can use a web proxy. It will connect to the site through the web proxy instead of network your on. Proxies over the years have proven their usefulness whether you use a web proxy or another type of proxy.
